Being community owned means we answer to you, our customers. Austin Energy exists to serve the community. We have no shareholders and do not operate for profit. Our customers are our stakeholders and help steer our policies and programs.

You are the public in public power. Customers are the driving force behind Austin Energy and the value we bring to the community. When customers need a helping hand, we have their backs with bill help for customers experiencing financial hardship, individualized support for folks with critical medical needs, and much more.

Community Focused

When you pay your electric bill, you are helping support Austin’s libraries, parks, and public safety. Part of Austin Energy’s revenue goes back into the community through City services. We also help local school districts, small businesses, and non-profits with special discounts and rebates.

Affordable

Customers want affordable energy bills with no surprises. Austin Energy rates consistently rank among the lowest in Texas. We set rates just once a year and work to limit annual rate increases. Our average system rate has not increased by more than 2% per year since 1995.

Reliable

Austin Energy works 24/7 to keep power flowing to Central Texans. Austin Energy customers experience 45% fewer outages per year and see their service restored 54% faster than the statewide average.

Safe

Austin Energy is laser focused on safety. Our crews perform year-round maintenance and improvements to make our systems as safe and reliable as possible. We offer free resources to help customers prepare and stay safe in outage emergencies. We even visit schools and hold events to teach students about electrical safety.
