Public Involvement & Real Estate Services (PIRES)
PIRES has real property, planning, GIS, and survey staff who provide guidance, support, and assistance to Austin Energy and its customers regarding electric distribution, transmission, and substation design and construction, as well as other transmission and generation related services provided by the utility. The group handles the acquisition of land rights for Austin Energy capital improvement projects and those required for the provision of electric service.
In addition, PIRES supports the City of Austin Development Services Department performing land use reviews on behalf of Austin Energy to ensure compliance with applicable City and building codes when applicants build, demolish, remodel, or perform any construction in the City of Austin. This includes subdivision and site plan, board of adjustment, land management, AULCC, and others.
PIRES handles customer issues or conflicts regarding easements, AE operated substations and rights-of-way, encroachments, clearance, and safety requirements. They provide education and knowledge to the general public on electric infrastructure and issue Service Availability Letters confirming that property is located within Austin Energy's service area, and that Austin Energy can provide electric service.

The Energy Conservation Audit and Disclosure (ECAD) ordinance requires energy audits and disclosures for all homes and buildings that are served by Austin Energy and located within Austin city limits.
